Denver to Scottsdale

We drove over a snowy Vail Pass to Utah. Our first night was at the KOA in Moab, UT. We were up early to drive south to the Monument Valley. It was extremely windy with fine red dust.

From a high vista the plains reminded me of photos I've seen of Africa. We had intended to reach the North Rim of the Grand Canyon but it was just too far and too windy so we stayed at a little town called Tuba City. Driving around the town we noticed red dust lawns. Red dust and scrubby plants up to the front doors of the houses again reminded me of pics of Africa.

There's a nice lodge run by the Navajo in Monument Valley. It is wonderfully situated to stay and photo the sunrises and sunsets on the Mittens.
